The Boston School of Photography
A couple of years ago, I had the nurturing experience of taking a short class at The Node Center for Curatorial Studies. The course focused on contemporary artistic photography, and one of the main topics on the table was the role of collectives or schools in the realm of visual expressions around the globe.
Along with the Kunstakademie Dusseldorf, the Boston School of Photography deeply intrigued me, to say the least. Years passed and my naive self took this collective for granted. After some digging, I noticed that information about this group of photographers was a bit scarce to my taste. A wonderful news for a researcher like myself!
The Boston School of Photography is an intriguing collective of artists who developed their unique styles and approaches towards photography. Rather than sticking with traditional techniques, they embraced a messy and instinctive approach to capture the essence of real life. This collective includes notable artists such as Gail Thacker, Mark Morrisroe, Jack Pierson, Nan Goldin and others.
It’s important to note that the Boston School of Photography is not a formal institution or organization, but rather a term used to describe this group of artists who share a similar approach to photography.
